Documents you need to legalize an imported car

The four documents without which the request cannot move forward, those added along the way and the differences for companies.

Updated on .Source:Applying for license plates for an imported vehicle (gov.pt / IMT, in Portuguese).

The four required documents

  • Complete registration certificate from the country of origin — in several countries it comes in two parts, and you need both.
  • The owner's ID document.
  • Transport document (CMR) or the valid insurance the car traveled with.
  • Invoice and receipt, or other proof of payment, for the transport.

Those added depending on the case

  • Certificate of Conformity (COC) — the basis for type approval and for calculating the ISV. If you don't have it yet, we order it for you.
  • IMT Form 9 (Modelo 9) — the application for license plate assignment, which ComfyLand prepares from your request details. You can also download it from our supporting documents.
  • Inspection for license plate assignment — the result of the technical inspection.
  • Bill of sale, if there is one.
  • Single Vehicle Document (DUA), once it exists.

If the car belongs to a company

The request is made in the company's name, with its tax number (NIPC) and the permanent commercial certificate code, and names a contact person. In addition to the four required documents, you add the commercial invoice; Form 9 and the DUA, when they exist, must be notarized.

How to send them

Everything is attached in the legalization request form, from your phone or computer — legible photos or PDFs. If anything is missing, the team lets you know and tells you how to send it. To see what happens next, read the step-by-step legalization guide.
